Frequently Asked Questions
Is authentication performed as a 1:1 or 1:N verification?
Authentication can be 1:1 or 1:N.
Can RealSense™ ID software be used without the F450 or F455?
No. RealSense ID is a complete solution that includes hardware and software. There are two form factors: RealSense ID F450 Module and RealSense ID F455 Peripheral.
Does RealSense ID support medical face masks?
Yes. RealSense ID supports facial authentication with medical face masks.
Does the algorithm adapt to age-related changes?
Yes. The authentication algorithm is designed to adapt to changes within reason.
Can multiple cameras be used in a single room? Will there be IR noise interference?
RealSense ID is mainly designed for Facial Authentication. Facial Authentication use cases that need multiple devices are typically positioned side-by-side or in parallel. These configurations are unlikely to have IR noise interference. Further, the short period of IR burst is unlikely to cause interference.
Does it work with IFTTT?
RealSense ID is a peripheral device that can connect to any host that supports IFTTT via the published interfaces like USB 2.0. Please see the technical specification for more information.
Is there a limit on the number of faces recognized by the camera?
There is a limit of up to 500 faces recognized on-device by the camera.
What is the difference between RealSense SDK 2.0 and RealSense ID SDK?
RealSense SDK 2.0 is meant to be used with RealSense depth cameras. RealSense ID SDK is only used by the RealSense ID F455 peripheral and F450 module.
Can it work 24/7?
Yes. RealSense ID solutions are designed for continuous usage.
Can it work without any network supporting it?
RealSense ID is a self-contained solution that includes the necessary hardware and software. The solution is purpose-built for facial authentication and is designed for standalone (edge) or connected configurations.
Does it authenticate animals?
No. RealSense ID is not designed for authenticating animals.
Will it work if multiple people show up at same time at the same distance from the camera?
Yes. RealSense ID supports up to 5 people in the Field of View.
Does it use cloud storage to store user pictures? Does it have local storage as well?
The solution does not store or need any user pictures. It is designed to use facial templates which are encrypted before being stored. Depending on the configuration, this can be stored locally or externally.
What is the current resolution of the camera for Facial Authentication?
RealSense ID Solution F455/F450 Camera resolution is 1080p.
Can this be used for tailgate detection?
Currently, the solution is designed for authentication and not explicitly designed for tailgate detection.
Can we use the GPIO Pins to send signals to other microcontrollers?
Currently, the solution is designed for authentication and not explicitly designed for tailgate detection.
Is a software license required to access the anti-spoofing and facial authentication features?
Yes, starting in Q1 2024, a software subscription license is required to access anti-spoofing and facial authentication features.
What are the new features or performance enhancements expected with the licensed software?
Significant improvements in accuracy and speed of detection have been made on the F450 and F455 and associated software. Starting in Q1 2024, the subscription license for anti-spoofing and facial authentication includes software updates for those who subscribe to the new software.
I have existing hardware modules and peripherals. Can I still use them today?
You may use the existing hardware today. A firmware update will be available in February 2024, and is recommended for all existing customers to enhance security.
What is the process for updating my existing hardware with the latest software?
Please refer to Get Started for instructions on updating your hardware with the latest software.
Will devices purchased prior to 2024 require a software license?
Existing customers who purchased hardware prior to 2024 may use their existing software as-is with the firmware security update 4.3.0.300. However, to access new anti-spoofing and facial authentication algorithms, enhanced software features, and regular software maintenance, customers will need to update the software to version 5.7 or newer, which will require a paid software license. Software will be available for download in Q2 2024.
Can I use RealSense ID hardware without a software license?
Starting in Q1 2024, a minimum software subscription to the anti-spoofing software will be required. Customers also have the option to purchase the premium subscription service which includes both anti-spoofing and facial authentication software.
How will licenses be managed?
Licenses will be managed through Intel IRC (Intel Registration Center). Customers will need to connect their devices to the internet to initialize or renew the license, but will not need the internet connection for normal operations once the license key is initiated.
